“Who done it?” Students will build critical thinking skills as they get hooked on uncovering the mysteries in great chapter books. The club will conclude with a super scavenger hunt around school, using a series of clues to solve a mystery.

Incoming Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Graders Explore Math, Science & Technology with the NASA “Why?” Files
Through hands-on activities and virtual field trips, students will use problem-based learning strategies and scientific inquiry to investigate a variety of scientific problems. The activities, which foster collaboration and team work, integrate math, science and technology in a fun and challenging way! Week 1: “The Case of the Mysterious Red Light” Week 2: “The Case of the Barking Dogs.”

Students who studied flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or trombone in fourth grade will develop skills in music literacy, instrument technique and composition. Volunteers from RBR’s Visual & Performing Arts Program will help mentor the younger students. The week will conclude with a concert in the Markham Place courtyard.

Students who want to further their art skills will engage in various media including drawing, painting, print making, and sculpture. At the end of the session, students will have a number of finished art projects to take home.

Incoming Seventh and Eighth Graders Spinning a Yarn: The Art of Verbal Storytelling
To provide balance to our media-driven culture, students will be encouraged to explore their unique expressiveness and develop literacy skills through storytelling. Storytelling can be a way to remind children that spoken words are powerful, that listening is important, and that clear communication between people is an art and a link to social success. Students will have fun while developing their verbal skills. Some of the best stories just need to be heard!
