    For Incoming Kindergarten and First Graders                Building Foundations with the Best of Books

    Through interactive read-alouds, students will be exposed to age-appropriate quality literature.  During each class session, students will learn strategies to enhance reading development.

    For Incoming First Graders                                        One Week to Fall in Love with Books

    Students will learn about great authors like Mo Willems, Davis Shannon, Doreen Cronin, or Laura Numeroff.  Each day students will learn about a different author and by the end of the week they will have fallen in love with books!

    Incoming First and Second Graders                             Math Work Stations You Can “Count On”

    Students will participate in “game-like” learning while rotating through various math stations that will require students to count, sort, graph, measure, problem solve and more!

    Incoming Second Graders                                          One Week to Fall in Love with Books

    Incoming Second and Third Graders                          Mystery Book Club

    “Who done it?”  Students will build critical thinking skills as they get hooked on uncovering the mysteries in great chapter books.  The club will conclude with a super scavenger hunt around school, using a series of clues to solve a mystery.

    Incoming Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Graders                    Explore Math, Science & Technology with the NASA “Why?” Files

    Through hands-on activities and virtual field trips, students will use problem-based learning strategies and scientific inquiry to investigate a variety of scientific problems.  The activities, which foster collaboration and team work, integrate math, science and technology in a fun and challenging way! Week 1: “The Case of the Mysterious Red Light”  Week 2: “The Case of the Barking Dogs.”

    Incoming Fifth Graders                                        Summer Band in the Park (This course has an extra materials fee)

    Students who studied flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or trombone in fourth grade will develop skills in music literacy, instrument technique and composition.  Volunteers from RBR’s Visual & Performing Arts Program will help mentor the younger students.  The week will conclude with a concert in the Markham Place courtyard.

    Incoming Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Graders                       Fine Arts Camp (This course has an extra materials fee)

    Students who want to further their art skills will engage in various media including drawing, painting, print making, and sculpture.  Students will learn to work with different materials while exploring topics in art history and world cultures.  At the end of the session, students will have a number of finished art projects to take home.

    Incoming Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Graders                 Summer Band in the Park (This course has an extra materials fee)

    Students who currently play a wind instrument in the band will develop skills in music literacy, instrument technique and composition.  Volunteers from RBR’s Visual & Performing Arts Program will help mentor the younger students.  The week will conclude with a concert in the Markham Place courtyard.

    Incoming Seventh and Eighth Graders                         Spinning a Yarn: The Art of Verbal Storytelling

    To provide balance to our media-driven culture, students will be encouraged to explore their unique expressiveness and develop literacy skills through storytelling.  Storytelling can be a way to remind children that spoken words are powerful, that listening is important, and that clear communication between people is an art and a link to social success.  Students will have fun while developing their verbal skills.  Some of the best stories just need to be heard!
