Ways In Which We Support SEL
Point Road School uses the Responsive Classroom Model.
This approach employs 4 domains:
Engaging academics
Effective management
Positive community
Developmentally responsive teaching

Point Road School also utilizes the Spot Series. The characters in this series are used as a tool in school to help your child become the best they can be, both in the classroom and at home. They reinforce the 5 core competencies of SEL that can be seen above.
Markham Place School capitalizes on monthly extended homerooms along with whole school and multi-grade level meetings to build school climate and culture.
Our guidance counselor conducts classroom lessons that are aligned with the NJSLS in 5th grade classrooms and in 6th-8th grade health classrooms. See sample, "Understanding the Brain" Classroom Lesson based on the MindUp Curriculum.
Students, staff, and families are encouraged to utilize the Converlation program to understand the ever-changing world of technology and promote educated, thoughtful digital citizenship. Find the links to grade-level Converlation slides under Resources.
